A Visitor From The Past By: Thelen Paulk

A VISITOR FROM THE PAST
by Thelen Paulk

I had a dream the other night, I didn't understand.
A figure walking through the mist, with flintlock in his hand.
His clothes were torn and dirty, as he stood there by the bed,
He took off his three-cornered hat, and speaking low, he said:

"We fought a revolution, to secure our liberty.
We wrote the Constitution, as a shield from tyranny,
For future generations, this legacy we gave,
In this, the land of the free and the home of the brave."

"The freedom we secured for you, we hoped you'd always keep.
But tyrants labored endlessly, while your parents were asleep.
Your freedom gone, your courage lost, you're no more
than a slave,
In this, the land of the free and the home of the brave."

"You buy permits to travel, and permits to own a gun,
Permits to start a business, or to build a place for one.
On land that you believe you own, you pay a yearly rent,
Although you have no voice in choosing how the money's spent."

"Your children must attend a school that doesn't educate.
Your Christian values can't be taught, according to the state.
You read about the current news, in a regulated press.
You pay a tax you do not owe, to please the I.R.S."

"Your money is no longer made of silver or of gold.
You trade your wealth for paper, so your life can be controlled.
You pay for crimes that make our nation turn from God in shame,
You've taken Satan's number, as you've traded in your name."

"You've given government control to those who do you harm,
So they can padlock churches, and steal the family farm,
And keep the country deep in debt, put men of God in jail,
Harass your fellow countrymen, while corrupted courts prevail."

"Your public servants don't uphold the solemn oath they've sworn.
Your daughters visit doctors so their children won't be born.
Your leaders ship artillery and guns to foreign shores,
And send your sons to slaughter, fighting other people's wars."

"Can you regain freedom for which we fought and died?
Or don't you have the courage or the faith to stand with pride?
Are there no more values for which you'll fight to save?
Or do you wish your children to live in fear and be a slave?"

"Sons of the Republic, arise and take a stand!
Defend the Constitution, the Supreme Law of the Land!
Preserve our great republic and each God-given right,
And pray to God to keep the torch of freedom burning bright!"

As I awoke he vanished, in the mist from which he came.
His words were true, we are not free. We have ourselves to blame.
For even now as tyrants trample each God-given right,
We only watch and tremble, too afraid to stand and fight.

If he stood by your bedside, in a dream while you're asleep,
And wondered what remains of our rights he fought to keep,
What would be your answer, if he called out from the grave?
Is this still the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave?

Another open Letter to my Representatives

Gentlemen,

I am writing to ask the three representatives of my district in New Jersey to vote against the "cap and trade" bill now under consideration in congress.  These bills in the house and senate are nothing more than a poorly disguised energy tax that will given the current financial problems in the country, will only serve to exponentially increase the tax burden on your constituents.   Please know that if you refuse to vote the way your constituents want you to vote well, you've seen what happened to Mr. Corzine.   Continue to vote along the party lines instead of how we, the people who voted you into office want you to vote, then prepare yourselves for your new careers as private citizens instead of public servants.

Respectfully,

 Brendan Dullaghan

An Open Letter to Rep. Pascrell, Senators Menendez and Lautenberg

Gentlemen,

Again I am writing to urge you as my representatives in Congress to vote no on the proposed health care plans put forth by the house and the senate.  Please vote according to the majority of your constituents who do not want government run health care.  Not only is it unconstitutional as written, but it will send the economy into a tailspin.   It is unconstitutional in that it mandates the purchase of health insurance.  Nowhere in the Constitution gives congress the power to mandate that citizens have to purchase anything.  Regardless if it is a good thing, it goes against everything that this country was founded on.  I'm sure you've seen the results of the election here in New Jersey as well as Virginia.  The main reason that Corzine lost is because he failed to listen to the people and did what he wanted to do.  Don't make the same mistake.  Don't vote for the health care bills because it's what your party wants you to do, vote against them because it's what the people who voted you into office want you to do.  If you fail to do what we the people of New Jersey want you to do, then I recommend you start preparing yourselves for living as a private citizen.  The people of New Jersey will no longer tolerate self-interested behavior in congress.  I don't care if our representatives are democrats or republicans, as long as you vote according to what your constituents want and not the special interest groups and lobbyists.

   Respectfully,

    Brendan Dullaghan

2nd Amendment

The legal basis for a government not infringing on the right to keep and bear arms is not constitutional provisions like the Second Amendment, but that the power to do so is not one of the enumerated powers delegated to the government, whether Union or State. That delegation must be explicit as pertains to arms. They can't be regulated on the basis of general powers to tax or to regulate commerce. Arms have a special status under constitutional law. Some State constitutions may delegate such powers to the State government. The U.S. Constitution does not delegate such powers to the Union government. No powers are delegated to government by the preamble to a constitution, which is only a statement of purpose, only by provisions in the body of the document and its amendments.

Global Warming - From The Hertiage Foundation

Spin the wheel and whatever number the ball lands on will be the new tipping point we must get below; if not, catastrophic global warming to cause 2012-style disasters on our planet. A few years ago the upper limit on carbon dioxide was 450 parts per million (ppm), which meant an 80 percent cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Now it’s 350 ppm:

In the past four years, climate scientists, led by NASA’s James Hansen, have dramatically altered the goal. To avoid the collapse of the continental ice-sheets and a dangerous rise in sea levels, many scientists are now saying we have to get down to 350 ppm, and quickly.

This means what was already a heroic (and to many, impossible) target has become mind-boggling. Reaching 350 ppm would require a 97 percent reduction in emissions, entailing a complete conversion to renewable energy systems by mid-century, with the world economy virtually free of carbon emissions. Such a goal is far more demanding than any of the leading policy proposals under discussion.”

Recently a group of scientists wrote an open letter to Congress stressing that cap and trade is a good first step, but Waxman-Markey should just be the beginning: “The Waxman-Markey bill now being considered by the Congress offers a powerful advance and must be enacted this year. But at its best it will be only a first step in the direction that scientists now recognize as necessary to protect local and regional climates.”

What would be necessary to obtain these goals is an energy transition of unthinkable magnitude. Although authors of a report Economics for Equity and the Environment Network say stopping global warming is something we can afford and “remains fundamentally a problem of political will”, others suggest that’s not the case.

Energy chemist Nate Lewis of the California Institute of Technology says just the opposite: “It’s not true that all the technologies are available and we just need the political will to deploy them.” Lewis shows just how much political will we’d need to even have a shot at this working:

The world used 14 trillion watts (14 terawatts) of power in 2006. Assuming minimal population growth (to 9 billion people), slow economic growth (1.6 percent a year, practically recession level) and—this is key—unprecedented energy efficiency (improvements of 500 percent relative to current U.S. levels, worldwide), it will use 28 terawatts in 2050. (In a business-as-usual scenario, we would need 45 terawatts.) Simple physics shows that in order to keep CO2 to 450 ppm, 26.5 of those terawatts must be zero-carbon.

That’s a lot of solar, wind, hydro, biofuels and nuclear, especially since renewables kicked in a measly 0.2 terawatts in 2006 and nuclear provided 0.9 terawatts. Are you a fan of nuclear? To get 10 terawatts, less than half of what we’ll need in 2050, Lewis calculates, we’d have to build 10,000 reactors, or one every other day starting now. Do you like wind? If you use every single breeze that blows on land, you’ll get 10 or 15 terawatts. Since it’s impossible to capture all the wind, a more realistic number is 3 terawatts, or 1 million state-of-the art turbines, and even that requires storing the energy—something we don’t know how to do—for when the wind doesn’t blow. Solar? To get 10 terawatts by 2050, Lewis calculates, we’d need to cover 1 million roofs with panels every day from now until then. “It would take an army,” he says.”

And Marlo Lewis at the Competitive Enterprise Institute points out that “sacrifices required of developing countries would be immense, because 90% of the growth in global CO2 emissions is expected to occur in developing countries.”

This is for 450ppm. They want 350ppm. To put this in some perspective, Sharon Begley notes in her Newsweek column that we are currently at 386 ppm; we were at 280ppm before the Industrial Revolution.

The shift from 450ppm to 350ppm demonstrates how arbitrary and inconclusive the science on global warming is. MIT’s Richard Lindzen Yong-Sang Choi recently published a study that says the impact of carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels may affect the global temperature far less than originally thought. It also goes to show how capping carbon dioxide emissions could strangle the global economy and adaptation could be a much less costly but much more effective approach to dealing with climate change.

Open Letter to Senators Lautenberg, Menendez on "Global Warming"

Gentlemen,

It's been scientifically proven that "Global Warming" has not been caused by mankind.  If every single producer of carbon dioxide were to stop today, in 10 years, the change would be a reduction of 0.04 degrees Fahrenheit.   All cap and trade would do is create more hardship to the average citizen, move jobs overseas, and reduce the standard of living in The United States.
Voting for cap and trade would doom this country to further economic problems.   Is that what you want the voters to see you for?   Are you prepared to face the music come re-election time?   How is it that you can be so arrogant to think you know what's best for us when we're telling you that WE know what's best for ourselves and our families?
Don't you think it's rather presumptuous of you two to assume you know better than us?  That you are smarter than us?   Your cavalier attitude will shorten your careers in congress.

Thomas Jefferson would vomit

We need to get the government to start living by the constitution.  If it wasn't for all the "social programs" that are not within the purview of the Fed. Govt. (Article 1 Section 8) there would be no deficit, there wouldn't be 100 trillion in unfunded liabilities.  If we  would only wake up and realize how far we've strayed from the ideals of the founding fathers, we could actually have a smaller, well-functioning, efficient government that focused on their respective jobs as laid out in the constitution.
The problem is the narcissistic, self-absorbed, greedy liars that we call congress.  None of them are willing to relinquish one iota of power that they've managed to hoard.  The back room deals, the special interests, the lobbyists,  they all contribute to the corruption of the idea that was The United States.
If the founding fathers could see what we have become, they would be angry and ashamed that their "great experiment" has been so corrupted, so perverted as to be unrecognizable to them as a "capitalistic republic"
In fact, it is my belief that if the founding fathers could see what this country was to be come in 200 plus years, they may have decided not to rebel against England and King George, They would probably say: "We're not ready for self-rule.  Look at what a mess of things our progeny perpetrates on a nation born of our blood, sweat and tears!"  "Our struggle for liberty, our suffering for freedom was in vain!"
But all is not lost.  There is still the chance we can redeem ourselves in the eyes of the founding fathers.  The federal government has too much power.  We need good, honest men to serve in congress that can resist the temptation to become  self-righteous, power-hungry, professional liars, and truly serve their country to get us back on the right course.  Otherwise this "great experiment"  of the people, by the people and for the people shall surely perish from this earth.

Obama Fail

If George W. Bush had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVDs, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have thought this embarrassingly narcissistic and tacky?

If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the non-existent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?

If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current on their income taxes, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to “Cinco de Cuatro” in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the fourth of May (Cuatro de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, would you have winced in embarrassment?

If George W. Bush had mis-spelled the word advice would you have hammered him for it for years like Dan Quayle and potatoe as “proof” of what a dunce he is?

If George W. Bush had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on “Earth Day”, would you have concluded he’s a hypocrite?

If George W. Bush’s administration had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually “get” what happened on 9-11?

If George W. Bush h ad been the first President to need a teleprompter installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes?

If George W. Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans , would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence?

If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again 10 times within years, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had reduced your retirement plan’s holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take Laura Bush to a play in NYC, would you have approved?

So, tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive? Can't think of anything? Don't worry. He's done all this in 5 months -- so you'll have three years and seven months to come up with an answer.

A Good Democrat

21 WAYS TO BE A GOOD DEMOCRAT

capitalism_socialism 1. You have to be against capital punishment, but support abortion on demand.

2. You have to believe that businesses create oppression and governments create prosperity.

3. You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding Americans are more of a threat than U.S. Nuclear weapons technology in the hands of Chinese and North Korean communists.

4. You have to believe that there was no art before Federal funding.

5. You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by cyclical documented changes in the earth’s climate and more affected by soccer moms driving SUV’s.

7. You have to believe that the same teacher who can’t teach fourth graders how to read is somehow qualified to teach those same kids about sex.

8. You have to believe that hunters don’t care about nature, but loony activists who have never been outside of San Francisco do.

9. You have to believe that self-esteem is more important than actually doing something to earn it.

10. You have to believe that Mel Gibson spent $25 million of his own money to make The Passion of the Christ for financial gain only.

11. You have to believe the NRA is bad because it supports certain parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is good because it supports certain parts of the Constitution.

12. You have to believe that taxes are too low, but ATM fees are too high.

13. You have to believe that Margaret Sanger and Gloria Steinem are more important to American history than Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Edison, and A.G. Bell.

14. You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial quotas and set-asides are not.

15. You have to believe that Hillary Clinton is normal and is a very nice person.

16. You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn’t worked anywhere it’s been tried is because the right people haven’t been in charge.

17. You have to believe conservatives telling the truth belong in jail, but a liar and a sex offender belonged in the White House.

18. You have to believe that homosexual parades displaying drag, transvestites, and bestiality should be constitutionally protected, and manger scenes at Christmas should be illegal.

19. You have to believe that illegal Democratic Party funding by the Chinese Government is somehow in the best interest to the United States.

20. You have to believe that this message is a part of a vast, right wing conspiracy.

21. You have to believe that it’s okay to give Federal workers off on Christmas Day but it’s not okay to say “Merry Christmas.”

Ready to vote???

Guns and Independence

"Firearms stand next in importance to the constitution itself.  They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence . from the hour the Pilgrims landed to the present day, events, occurrences and tendencies prove that to ensure peace security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable . the very atmosphere of firearms anywhere restrains evil interference -- they deserve a place of honor with all that's good." -- George Washington

An open Letter to my Congressman and Senators

Sir,

No only is health care NOT one of the enumerated powers granted to congress in Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution, But the fact that nobody is even addressing the issue of tort reform is irresponsible.  First off, leave health care to the individual states.  Second, the institution of tort reform would reduce the malpractice insurance premiums that doctors have to pay and would pass the savings on to their patients (and the insurance companies that pay for the procedures) which in turn would reduce the premiums that people pay for health insurance... problem solved!  But of course, you're more involved in what the special interests want and will contribute to your reelection campaign if you "play ball" (ie; trial lawyers, malpractice insurance companies; union bosses)
So keep listening to the special interests.  Keep filling your war chests with the special interest contributions, it will do you no good.  If you insist on ignoring the voters in your district, the voters will ignore you... and vote someone into office that will listen to them instead of deep pocket special interests.

What could Possibly go Wrong?

"Let me get this straight.
We're going to pass a health care plan
written by a committee whose head says he doesn't understand it,
passed by a Congress that hasn't read it but exempts themselves from it,
signed by a president that also hasn't read it, and who smokes,
with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes,
overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and
financed by a country that's nearly broke.
What possibly could go wrong?"

I'm getting fed up!

Unfunded federal government liabilities over 100 BILLION,  Health insurance MANDATED by the Federal Government, Now regulation of everyday minutia... Cheerios regulation?  Trans Fats?  cigarettes?   We are slowly and inexorably turning into a socialist nanny state.  Where in the U.S. Constitution does it give the Federal Government the right to tell me I MUST buy health insurance?  I SHALL NOT smoke ANYWHERE at ANYTIME?  I SHALL NOT eat a big mac?  I'm getting pretty F-ing fed up with the Feds sticking their nose into my business where it doesn't belong...  It's only one small step removed from:  YOU MUST NOT READ THIS BOOK, YOU SHALL BUY THIS PRODUCT, YOU SHALL THINK THIS WAY....... OR ELSE YOU SHALL FACE THE CONSEQUENCES FROM US.
